Seamless direct streaming

Say goodbye to the usual resource-heavy video transcoding taking place in the Mobile Server with the new direct streaming feature. With direct streaming, live video is streamed directly to XProtect Mobile and the XProtect Web Client, which drastically reduces the load on the Mobile Server.
Benefits include:
- A Mobile Server capable of handling more users
- An improved viewing experience for mobile and web client users
Ideal for
Larger organizations
Direct streaming is especially good for larger organizations with many web and mobile users. Organizations can now limit the hassle of setting up and maintaining multiple mobile servers with a XProtect Mobile Server that is capable of handling more mobile users.

On-the-go users who rely on XProtect Mobile and the XProtect Web Client to monitor their installations will also benefit from an improved viewing experience.

Direct streaming is available in XProtect Expert and XProtect Corporate.

What results can you expect?

With the Direct Streaming technology, a significantly increased performance is achieved when comparing XProtect 2020 R2 with previous XProtect versions.
Previous Scenario
With the previous transcoding method of processing video XProtect was able to achieve an average of 14 video streams playing at 20 frames per second (FPS) across all active XProtect Clients. In real life, this would allow up to 14 client devices to display a single video stream at the same time, before a drop in the video quality is identified.
Mixed Technology Scenario
With the new Direct Streaming method, XProtect handles eight times as many live video streams! Now users can easily connect more than 100 client devices displaying a single stream at the same time, while maintaining the same high video quality.
Testing was performed on a PC with the following hardware configuration:
  • CPU– 1 x Intel ® Xeon Silver 4208 2.10Ghz. 8 Cores/16 Threads
  • GPU– N/A • RAM– 2 x RDIMM 8GB DDR4 2666MT/s
  • Networkcard - 2x 10 Gbit NIC – Management network and Recording server
  • OS - Windows Server 2019 Standard

Expanded adaptive streaming

The existing adaptive streaming functionality in the XProtect Smart Client is now also available for the XProtect Web Client. With this expansion, XProtect Web Client users can receive lower resolution streams when a higher one isn’t necessary. The result is reduced load on the Mobile Server and a more seamless viewing experience.
With adaptive streaming in the XProtect Web Client, users get:
- Smoother and better user experience
- Reduced load on the Mobile Server
- Reduced load on hardware running the XProtect Web client
- Optimal bandwidth use
Ideal for
Remote users
Users receiving a large amount of video streams on their XProtect Web Clients will experience a much smoother viewing experience with less lagging.

This feature is available in XProtect Expert and XProtect Corporate.
