Our new release promises faster and more reliable video search, performance, and delivery.

Less time searching, more time finding

Security operators are the eyes and ears of their organization. When an incident occurs, they are expected to provide the answers and video evidence - immediately. Locating the specific video sequence can be time-consuming, especially for installations with thousands of cameras recording 24/7. With XProtect 2020 R3, we make it easy.
Finding the needle in the haystack is easier than ever with the new multi-category Search. Multi-category Search allows users to combine and search across multiple Search categories to quickly find what is needed. The Search categories include people, vehicle, and location as well as any Search agents developed and integrated into XProtect by third-party technology partners like Bosch, Hanwha, and Axis.

The multi-category Search allows users to set the Search filters in the XProtect Smart Client to only provide results containing all selected search criteria and exclude those that only meet one of them.

Looking for recordings that include a person and a specific vehicle together?
For example, an operator can narrow his investigation to contain video sequences that include blue vehicles AND male persons*. Once those Search parameters are set, the XProtect Smart Client will only present the results that fulfill the selected criteria.

For operators, this means an easy and more efficient workflow, as the multi-category Search instantly narrows down the Search results and allows them to quickly find what they are looking for.

* Requires specific devices exporting metadata in ONVIF Analytics Specification-compliant format.

One single place for searching

This multi-category Search option comes at the heels of several improvements to the XProtect Smart Client’s Search function.

Centralized Search already allows operators to search for:
  • ONVIF-compliant metadata, including three specific Search categories: people, vehicles, and locations - all in just one single place.
  • Video sequences, alarms, events, bookmarks, and access control.
  • Data types from technology-partner solutions integrated with Search.
  • Specific vehicles using License Plate Recognition (LPR).
Product compatibility
The multi-category Search is found in the XProtect Smart Client and is compatible with XProtect Expert and XProtect Corporate.

Flawless 360-degree video

Get the best overview of your operation with expanded 360-degree camera support.
In recent years, the video surveillance market has seen a rise in 360-degree camera deployment. This is mostly due to their ability to cover a larger area than standard surveillance cameras. Hence most customers will experience significant installation and camera cost reductions and increased situational awareness when deploying these camera types.

360-degree cameras are especially useful in the retail industry. Here, it's often essential to track suspicious individuals' movement and by using a 360-degree camera, the operator can track a moving object across a much larger area in one go instead of switching amongst different cameras.

Now, with XProtect 2020 R3, you have the freedom and flexibility to add any 360-degree cameras that deliver a complete round fish-eye view. The expanded support is hardware-agnostic and ensures that the 360-degree images received into XProtect VMS are delivered into a standard, operator-friendly format.
Product compatibility
360-degree camera support is available in XProtect Essential+, XProtect Express+, XProtect Professional+, XProtect Expert and XProtect Corporate.

XProtect Smart Client performance improvements

A vital component in today’s video surveillance operation is image resolution and image quality. This need has led to an uptake in high-resolution solutions like Ultra HD/4K and 360-degree cameras. With this increase comes renewed requirements for handling and processing the video coming from those hi-res cameras.
In 2020 R3, we introduce a new and optimized video processing engine in the XProtect Smart Client, which allows it to sustain a high frame rate, even when zooming ultra HD/4K or 360-degree cameras. This action previously put a heavy load on the central processor, causing the frame rate to drop. The new video processing engine creates a significantly increased performance over previous versions of the XProtect Smart Client.

Please note that only users with hardware acceleration enabled will experience the benefits from these improvements. Either using NVIDIA cards or Intel Quick Sync.

What results can you expect?

As illustrated in the graph below the XProtect Smart Client 2020 R3 is able to deliver 4 streams at 30 frames per second (FPS), 9 streams at 27 FPS and 16 streams at 23 FPS.  This is big step forward for many installations, especially those with many ultra HD/4K or 360-degree cameras.

Adaptive streaming – now available on XProtect Mobile

In our last product update, 2020 R2, we expanded adaptive streaming to include the XProtect Web Client. Now, we take it one step further with the inclusion of XProtect Mobile.
Adaptive streaming allows users to receive lower resolution streams when a higher one isn’t necessary.

With adaptive streaming in XProtect Mobile, users get:
- A smoother and seamless viewing experience
- Reduced load on the Mobile server when sending and receiving low resolution streams
- Reduced resource consumption on their mobile device
Product compatibility
This feature is available in XProtect Expert and XProtect Corporate.

Direct streaming support for MJPEG video streams

Our direct streaming functionality already drastically reduces the load on the Mobile server since live video is streamed directly from the Recording Server to XProtect Mobile and the XProtect Web Client without transcoding.
Now, in addition to supporting H.264 and H.265 video streams, direct streaming also supports MJPEG format in the XProtect Web Client. This improvement will be especially useful for operators who rely on the XProtect Web Client for live monitoring.
Product compatibility
Direct streaming is supported in XProtect Expert and XProtect Corporate.
